About Us

History

Construction started in 1998[1].
First phase commenced in 2001 with more than 1,000 students enrolled[1].
Being a branch campus of its parent in Perth, Australia, the Sarawak campus moved into its permanent location in Senadin near Lutong in September 2002.[2]
Phase One of the 1,100 acre site comprises a large man-made lake, 3 double-story buildings containing lecture theaters, case study rooms, classrooms and staff offices; 2 double-story buildings containing engineering laboratories, a 300-seat lecture theater; and a three-storey library/administration building with cafeteria, retail shops and a surau. Altogether there are 18 laboratories and 22 lecture/seminar/tutorial rooms with a total capacity that can cater for up to 1,800 students. Students can choose to live on campus in one of the 3 three-storey apartment blocks with a total of over 200 beds plus common recreation facility, which includes badminton and basketball courts, a gymnasium and a restaurant.[2]
The extensive lake and the distinctive red brick walls give the campus the 'Curtin' look of its parent campus in Perth, Australia. Curtin Sarawak is designed with new technology that incorporates a local flavor. This can be seen in the buildings of high-tech materials that are also oriented to give the plan an overall appearance of a Pua Kumbu cloth, a traditional Iban fabric weave.[2]
World-class, state-of-the-art facilities and laboratory equipment, and sophisticated IT linkages provide full access to the resources of the international renown Curtin of Western Australia.[2]
A purpose-built campus, Curtin Sarawak will eventually accommodate up to 10,000 students from all over the world. The campus will also host study abroad students from the United States and Europe, who will be able to take advantage of the exceptional opportunities offered here, with its hugely rich environmental and cultural diversity. Courses on this campus almost exactly mirror those offered at the main campus in Perth.[2]
