About Mulu

Gunung Mulu National Park is gazetted as one of World Heritage site. It is the 'jewel in the crown' of Sarawak's expanding network of national parks. It is also the largest national park, covering 52,865 hectares of primary rainforest, which is traversed by fast flowing rivers and clear jungle streams. There are three prominent mountains in Mulu - Gunung Mulu (2,376 m), Gunung Api (1,750 m) and Gunung Benarat (1,585 m).[1]

Dense vegetation clings to every surface. Steep slopes and vertical cliffs reach summit ridges before dropping to hidden valleys. Jagged limestone pinnacles, bleached while, pierce the lush green canopy. Cave passages wind their way through the mountains, opening into chambers so large you are dwarfed to insignificance.

The place is abound with superlatives: the world's most extensive cave system, the world's largest natural rock chamber - big enough to accommodate 40 Boeing 747 aircraft park side by side - and Southeast Asia's longest cave passage.[2]

Stay at Mulu National Park in the heart of Sarawak's only World Heritage Area[3]. Accommodation is nestled on the edge of the rainforest beside the beautiful Melinau River. Choose from rooms with private bathrooms and air-conditioning or ceiling fans or stay in provided hostels.

The Cave of the Winds where millions of years ago, the first minute calcite crystals were deposited, building the majestic columns and stalagmites in the King's Chamber.

Clearwater Cave

Nearby in Clearwater Cave the river roaring beneath your feet has travelled along its subterranean route for over 108 km. The trail to view the Pinnacles is only 2.4 km long, but rises 1,200 metres. The last section is nearly vertical with ropes and ladders, so you need to be fit.
